Speed density
Whats going on everyone. Im looking to buy an 87-92 notch. I know a bunch about foxbodies but i dont really know alot about speed density. I know what it is and what year cas had it. I was wondering if it would be worth it to buy an 87 or 88 because of the problems about speed density i heard of. I heard that once you start modding like heads, cam and such that the car runs like crap and it gives you aloot of problems, ive even heard that some basic bolt ons can cause this. Ive heard that it just depends on you car like one sd car ill be fine and the other might give you alot of problems. I know about converting to mass air but i heard that after you go mass air conversion that alot of the mass conversion ars have problems with their cars. That alot of the conversions dont help because they "dont work" like you still get alot of problems with the car. Sorry if i sound stupid but i just want to know as much as possible about the subject so i can make a good decision. Thanks alot for the info in advance.....
your're better off buying a mass air flow car instead of speed density, then you won't have to worry about the conversion being done right and all. the MAF systems are much more sophisticated and can be tuned to go with mods but the stock speed density systems cannot be tuned near as well as the newer MAF systems can. if money is no object, then you could look into the FAST speed density control system but they are not cheap.
You cant do any mods on speed density for this reason....
Speed density operates by the computer thinking, well if the throttle is open x amount, than y amount of air should be coming in. Which works fine with stock compenents.
But when you do any mods to the engine, more air will flow, so y amount of air will not be correct at throttle position x, as a result of better air flow.
Mass Air is able to judge exactly how much air is coming into the engine by using a wire that is in the air flow that is kept hot. As more air flows, the wire cools down, and more voltage needs to be applied to keep it at the correct temp, this is how the computer knows how much air is coming in.

NOT TO TAKE THIS THREAD OR ANYTHING BUT WHAT IS THIS "FAST SPEED DENSITY CONTROL SYSTEM"? WHERE CAN I FIND MORE INFORMATION ON IT? WHERE CAN I GET IT?
no money is very much an object lol.... I was reading other posts about speed density and how its not as bad as people make it out to seem wit their problems and the problems converting them to mass air. i first was only looking at 89-92 notch's but ive seen several 87 and 88 notchs thats why i asked....

F.A.S.T is the name of the product. it stands for Fuel Air Spark Tuning (?). its an aftermarket speed density system and many racers use it. it lets you really tune your motor.

Ok, so are you saying that it is a tunnable system like i can tune it (if i knew how) or that it is just tuned differently than the stock SD?
Also, where can i get it?
