Computer advancing timing
I've searched here and on the web but not finding what I'm looking for. Maybe I'm just not using the correct keywords in my search. Maybe someone can answer or can point me in the right direction for the information.
I've been trying to run down a few gremlins on a recent "stock" rebuild. I was asked if I was getting 16 degrees of computer advance over base timing at 5000 rpm. I have my base timing set at 14 degree (w/spout out). With the spout in, I can see that the computer is changing the timing at different RPM's. However, at 5000 I'm only seeing 18 degrees total of advance instead of the 30 I should see if the computer is advancing 16 over base.
I've heard there should be about 30 degress total advance but I'm not getting it. Is it the computer? The TFI? Something else?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or links to good reading material.

RE: Computer advancing timing
What ecu do you have?
That will make a difference on what total timing you are seeing...
How are you looking at total advance while driving?
What LOAD are you running at when you look at the total advance?
Here is some info on a couple of ecu's, and how timing works...
