Default Sheet Metal Door Panels

Hey guys, I want to make some sheet metal door panels for m 88 GT. Just wondering if anyone has any advice or maybe a how-to. I know its pretty self explanatory but is there any advice anyone can give me before I start my little project? thickness, etc.? Should I just use self tappers?

Wolfe Racecraft sells them pre made. As for making them. Just cut sheet metal to shape and use self tapping screws to install it. You probably just want to use thin sheet aluminum, otherwise it will end up being heavier then the door panel.

i'd use alum and make sure you put a bead (is that what its called? the v-shaped crease) around it and on an angle so its not flimsy. that way you can run a thinner gauge

Yea, I have already seen those Wolf Craft ones but Im SUPER broke right now and Im just trying to make my own.

Anyway, its really not even about the weight because door panels to begin with are light as hell so your not going to save much even if you go with a super thin thickness. I dont want anything flimsy though.

So I guess I should just pick some sheetmetal (not sure which size but I will determine that once I check it out in person) and use some self tappers to put it on?

Because the 88 GT is completely gutted and it needs tons of work. I was going to do a full interior in it but I think for now I'm just going to put in a carpet, seats an leave the rest out for now and I could always go back and put the interior back in.

LoL Well, I'm mainly not driving it because it doesnt have a front end, motor, transmission, entire interior, wiring harness, some suspension, glass, and a few other small things

i had my stock door panels out over the summer... i was surprised, they seemed really heavy! i can imagine aluminum would be lighter. although a big piece of sheet aluminum won't be cheap. you also might wan't to put a little something, padding or so, on the back to avoid rattles
