I just installed the distributor with the new ignition control module and checked the timing to make sure it was still at 16 degrees. It was so I went for a drive. The same symptoms are still happening. So, now I'm out of ideas, how about you guys?

did u put the gasket on the fuel pressure regulator? i know that a dumb question but its easy to forget, i ran 42ps with the vacume off and 14* and it ran great, also the more retarted your timing the more lowend you have and the more advanced the more high end you have, try settin it to 10, if that dose not help set it to 18 or so, go from one extreme to the other, if one runs better then the other that will tell you if you have to much or not anugh fuel. also you can try resettin the computer

Backfiring is definatley a timing issue. Set it to 12*. That should be fine. Theres no reason why that shouldnt be okay. Then set the WOT pressure @38-41psi. I had some backfiring on my other ride when i was messing with the timing, and i had 3 1/2 inch talis. Imagine how loud that was!.lol. Hows ur fuel pump? stock?. Maybe the pump is bad.

Well what I dont understand is that the timing was set at 18 all last summer and the car ran flawlessly. Over the winter I put on the fuel pressure regulator and it is sealed up right, and I changed the spark plugs. That's when the problem occured. I never touched the distributor over the winter... Any ideas?

Do you still have the split fire plugs in it?
Did you have this problem before you installed these plugs? Try putting some stock recommended plugs in it,basically starting over set the fpr @ 42lb and your timing at 14 deg. with spout removed.
The reason im talking about the plugs is maybe your engine does'nt like these or you got the wrong heat setting.( plugs may be too cold or hot ).
Your car should run great at 42lbs of fuel with timing at 14-16 degrees.
