i just bought some MAC shorties off of ebay, unequal length i believe. my plan is to take the headers to an exhaust shop and just get some matching pipe to run off the headers and some turn down's on the ends. not running on the way back to mufflers.

if you are going to do that i would make it side exhaust so you dont have the exhaust gases coming through into the car

well, the tubes would be turned down at the ends at about a 45 degree angle, so i think that would shoot the exhaust away. if i came out the sides, i would have a ground clearance issue. i live in rural illinois, and the railroads out here blow. i would bottom out at least twice a day leaving/coming home. i'm guessing i would have maybe 3-4 inches of clearance if i came out the sides in front of the rear tires somewhere. 3-4 inches might be a high estimate.

so you are going to run headers and then stright pipes? no mufflers or cats? if so im going to be the one to say that is stupid and it will hinder your performance, a motor needs a certin amount of back pressure, most cars run better with mufflers then without, also people will be callin the police on you all the time because it will be a lot louder that you want it to be, i know, i have done it before, and my car ran like ****. save your money and get good stuff dont go cheep it does not pay to be cheep.

well its got some flowmasters on it now, should i have pipe run back to those ya think?? how m uch backpressure do the mufflers actually provide? and if engines need all that backpressure, then why do cars at the strip not have them? i see them with open headers all the time...

when you are racing it dose not matter, all you want to do is get it out as fast as you can, on extreem modded cars that make a lot of power and a lot of exhaust, so they dont want to run it through mufflers at the track, but most tracks make you run mufflers, 2chambers or something, all im saying is you want an h or x pipe, and good headers, you can use your stock cat back, but i see that you have flowmasters, a good tuned exhaust is better for the street, also most 5.0's sound crappy with no mufflers. you got MAC headers right? if so then get a mac h/x pipe and then you will be set, you dont want to be cheep with exhaust, you want good free flowing bends, for a smooth flow.
