Default noise and smoke to much oil

I have a 91 lx with a 5.0 bored .30 over with over size cams. The other day i had my brother put some oil into it and stp......i then raced another 5.0 down 22nd st. (lol) any way i got home the nleft again and at the store a loud ticking sound came into play a 5.0 enthusiast heard it and said it was an exhaust gasket leak i changed the gaskets on the headers, that fixed about 85% of the noise i also noticed there was 1 1/2 quarts to much in the engine, ****ing kid. ANYWAY could the noise be coming from the collectors? the x pipe? i dont have any cats so......also i do plan on changing the oil tonight i havent drove it since OH and also after i replaced the gaskets i started it (sounded much meaner and tighter) but i saw smoke come up quick from the driver side right above the header now is it just oil coming out what should i do help!!! oh the enging has about 10,000 on it

Make sure your oil filter on the driver side does not have a double gasket(the old oil filter left it's rubber gasket on the engine block). That would cause smoke in that area.

Make sure the filter is tight.

As far as the ticking, I would tighten the collectors, and check over any exhaust mods.

Recheck your oil level and ignore the burnoff if they are new headers.

Also, there is no such thing as a 5.0 with oversize cams.

It probabley has a oversized cam no plural involved 5.0s only have one cam so you could have aftermarket cam though..
Also the oil you are seeing could be from the valve cover gasket not sealing properly I have this problem on mine it is one of the oil leaks I have to fix..

Also, I've heard that aftermarket roller lifters will make a ticking noise.....it would've always been there, but maybe you couldn't hear it over the exhaust leak?? You can always pull a valve cover off to check

i would go back and retighten the headers bolts they tend to loosen up after instaling new gaskets. might try to tighten the flange bolts and yea def change the oil. good luck

Not true, the likely cause for someone to saythis is they didn't measure for correct pushrod length.
