Default car stalling/ backfireing

So I have a problem. My car is hitting some kind of fuel cut or its missing or something. I just was wandering if anyone else has this problem. It drives around fine untill you try to get on it then at just after 3000 rpms it falls all over itself, the motor cuts out some times it backfires but it always does it in gear not in neutral. But in first sometimes it cuts out if I try to gun it off the line. I have tried replacing the cap and rotor, plugs and wires but no change I don't know what to try next cause I don't want to just throw money and parts at it. Any advice.? My car is a 87 5.0 with a cam, mass air conversion and exaust if that makes any difference. Thanks

Is this car new to you? If not what have you done to it lately?

see if all of the wires for the MAF conversion are spliced correctly. make sure they are tight or not corroded.

have you checked the timing and the fuel pressure, and how do the plugs look, it sounds to me as if the timing is off where does it backfire threw the intake or exhaust???

Ok tried to check the fuel pressure today and there is some weird electronic sensor looking thing were the schrader valve should be. So Im goin to a local speed shop tommorow and see if they have something that will work. I think It's the fuel thou cause today I noticed that if you drive it right after starting it the car will let you get on it more but once you go throu about two gears it starts cutting out and hesitating. I have a question thou. How would the timing just get screwed up? It was fine for about a week and a half after I bought the car. Also Is this a interfearince motor or not? If my timing is off am I in danger of banging a valve off a piston or something?
