Default afr heads?

the afr 165cc heads any good? or the 185cc if not whats a good set of heads for the 5 liter. i was looking at the gt40x heads or the twisted wedge heads?

For a street car I'd get the 165's. extra displacement, higher compression, or forced induction maybe bump it up a notch or two, but the 165s are great heads.

here's the test results from the MM&FF street head comparison test they did in 2003. you will see the AFR 165's finished on top of the heap! they picked up 90 HP over the stock heads on the 306 test engine they used for all the dyno tests.

PS. I got edelbrock performer heads, and if I had to do it again I'd go with the same ones. Down a little on power, but the difference in price was huge. I think the shop I got them from had them sitting around and wanted to unload them because I got them for about 1/2 price. Either that or they tossed in the valves, springs, etc. all for free.

yeah, i got my performer heads cheap too. they are only like 10-15 hp less than afrs.

and edelbrocks have better valve springs out of the box, good to like .600 lift
