so is this the air silencer??
ok, i just went to upload a picture and it was too damn big. anyways, i got my right front fender off tonight so i can fix a dent this week. i found a big black ball/canister deal and a 4-5 inch canister mounted to the body behind it. which of these is the air silencer?? anything i don't need is comin off!!

alright if you take you're airbox lid off and you're filter out there's a hole in the fenderwall, there's a large plastic peice that is mounted in that hole, get you're pliers and rip that SOB out.

lol, dude my fender is OFF. i was told that the silencer bolts in? take a couple bolts out, and it falls down. i think i see the damn thing, i mean. i could rip it out barehanded if i wanted too. i dunno what ur talkin bout though, pliers aint touchin that guy.

remove the cover on the air cleaner box and remove the air filter. there are some bolts that hold the air silencer on that once you remove them the silencer will fall off since you have the fender off of it. the air silencer has what looks like the bell of a trumpet on it, that's where the air enters it. not sure what that other thing is you can see with the fender off.

the other thing i described looks like an EVAP canister?? or a secondary air canister? somethin like that. i know GM cars more than Fords. Mustangs weigh heavily over any GM tho :P

On a 95 i thought the silencer was just that little rubber molding that connects the filter cone area to the wheel well to make it a CAI of sorts. Unless he is talking about the 87 then im out.

That's the only way that I could get mine off. I didn't unbolt my air box and there is one more peice of plastic that runs from the hole in my fenderwall into the fenderwell and looks like a ram air kinda thing. I'll probably un bolt my air box today and take that out too.

ppl love to remove the silencer but think about like this. why? it has a tubular opening why not just hook up some ducting and duct it down under the car...this would give you a ram air effect

The bolts that need to be loosened to remove the air silencer is not under the fender, it's under the airbox! Take off your airbox and you'll see two (or three) bolts going into the fender around that hole, that holds on to the air silencer. Remove those, and you should hear it fall down.
