Default Explorer engine??

I always hear everyone talking about explorer parts like its intake, heads, and other stuff being used on their stangs. And from what i hear all these parts make more power than the stock stang stuff. I was wondering if the whole explorer engine can be dropped in replacing the stangs stock one. I imagine it would be better, right??.

Im sure its possible but is it really worth it when you can just take the different parts off and bolt them on the stang?

its possible, i have 2 friends who have done this. around here you can pick up a used explorer engine from intake to oil pan with decent miles for $400-500. then sell the intake and you just got a gt40 long block for like $200-300. my friend just put a gt40p engine with an F303 cam in his coupe.

at that point in time can you just like bolt on like a cobra intake and go with it, and have more horse and torque than what normally comes in a fox body?

those motors dont have the CR as a normal 5.0. now when you add those parts to our motors it gives more CR which is more power plus the parts. their cam is alot more tame since its a truck. also the motor is dist. less just means you need to add one. i say just get parts and use them. oh by the way the valve covers are thesame as on a cobra

do you mean put a cobra intake on the exploere motor? the intake on the explorer motor is basicly a cobra motor anyway. The only thing i would change on that motor out of the explorer would be the cam. they have no top end power and stop pulling around 4000 rpms. just change the cam and you should have an easy 300hp out of an explorer motor

i think like 96 and up- i think in 97 1/2 they switched to the gt40p heads, before that they had regular gt40 heads (same as a 5.0 cobra) from what i was told
