Default T-5 Fluid change

Hey guys,

I went to every royal purple "dealer" in my area and they only had royal purple oil. So I finally talked to some of the guys, and came back with Mercon V(5). So to start out, will this work in my t-5? I know i'll prolly get told royal purple works smooter and all, thats fine. But I just wanna know can I put the Mercon 5 in my trans, and be okay? I.e. will my trans mess up in a few hundred miles or is it all good? The Mercon 5 says its for Ford vehicles on the back so I should be okay, I hope. haha Next, if it is a good fluid for the trans, I need sorta a 101 on changin the fluid out. Me and my bro will be doing a tune-up in the next few days, but were also checkin all the fluids on the car, and he knows his way around cars in general, but he's not a master with t-5's. Now my friend told me I would have 2 plugs on the bottom of the trans, and I would have to drain through one, and pump the fluid into the other. Is this correct? Do I need a fluid pump?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,
Tony

in another thread i was reading some guy said mercon 3, 4, or 5 was okay. and the back of the bottle says "certified for use in Ford vehicles that require MERCON or MERCON V".

ur trans takes about 3 quarts if you didnt kno that. it might be easier for you if you undo the drain plugs upper then lower and once the tranny is empty put the bottom plug in and fill it through the shifter. you have to take the shifter off to fill it. unless you have some sort of pump to get it up into the top hole. once fluid comes out the top hole its full.
