Default Explorer Intake= Cobra Intake?

I have been told that the intake manifold of a Ford explorer (95-up) is the same one as the '93 cobra or gt-40 intake in desguise. They say it works on all 5.0's. Is this true?

Yes it will bolt up to a 5.0, there a a few differences though. The Explorer does not have provisions for the ACT (air charge temp) sensor so you will have to drill and tap #5 intake runner for it or install it in the intake tube before the throttle body like mine is. The upper intake has about 4 vacuum tubes too many lol, I had my welder friend weld mine closed but a good epoxy will do the trick as well or drill and tap them for pipe plugs after you cut off the tubing. Be careful when you look for one as some have provisions for EGR and others do not, you can tell by the small round hole in the center of the top mounting surface on the lower intake. There should be a corosponding hole on the upper as well, and exhaust cross over as well. Other than those few minor issues it is for all practical purposes a bolt on affair. The throttle body can be used as well but needs modifications to work properly, it is a 65mm unit though and is worth the time and effort to mod it to work.

everything that birdman said is correct. the explorer intake has a coulple little surprises for you before the install but nothing a DIY'er cant handle.

When i installed mine, my ACT was moved to where the TB is (drilled a hole and screwed it in). my EGR was blocked anyway so i didnt care if it had it or not (but if you need EGR make sure there is the coolant passage in the center of the intake, its a hole just big enough to fit your finger in). the vacuum lines, yea hes right about 4 too many but nothing that some screws and sealant cant handle.

other than that its a GREAT intake and worth the money. I like mine

best part is it looks so sleeper since you can bolt the 5.0 plate on the explorer intake and it looks almost stock [8D]

why not just get a real gt-40 intake, less headache involved there should be an abundance of them on ebay, especially since everyone now wants the new bbk intake, i know when i get one i will be auctioning off my gt-40 intake.

because the explorer intake costs 1/3 of the GT40. its not such a bigheadache actually, as i mentioned before any DIY'er can handle it.
