The actual size of the engine is 302 cubic inches wich eaquals 4948.87 Cubic Centimeters wich eaquals 4.9 liters. So 5.0 isnt the size actual of the engine 4.9 is. Ford just rounded up to 5.0 because it sounds better that 4.9.

really depends on how much time and money you want to put into the vehicle....do you want to rebuild a high mileage car or start with a lower mileage in better shape....personally I would buy a $2000-$2500 car that is in good shape body and motor wise....LEARN TO DO THE THINGS YOURSELF BECAUSE THE SHOPS WILL BEND YOU OVER BACKWARDS IN LABOR...depends on body style and likes....me personally I bought my 89 GT used for $2000 (5.0)....I have gotten rid of the things that are stock that I will not be using to make about $1500 back....remember cost is important and can stop your progress...as we all know hp costs money...I have learned thru trial and error how to do alot of the things myself plus my friend in the neighborhood is a welder....major plus!!!!!! AGAIN BE PATIENT AND CAREFUL WHEN YOU ARE LOOKING AT USED CARS BECAUSE THEY CAN BE MONEYPITS IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING....good luck
