Default idle waiving on 5.0 aod

on my girlfriends 87 5.0 with an aod (bone stockexcept air silencer removed) when in gear the cars idle moves somewhere between 50 and 100 rpm (idling round 750and 850 in gear, 950-1000 in park), i just cleaned the throttle body and iac because it was stalling in gear and just replaced the fuel filter to be safe, whats causing this, any help is useful

also her valve covers leak, its the passenger side of the car, is it possible to replace them with the intake still on or will i have to remove the tb and upper intake, any special tools needed? i imagine i should do both gaskets?

Is the motor surging/hunting for an idle in gear?

The fuel pump is either working or its not. if you can hear it run all the time (humming noise)that means it is about to leave you stranded some where. The motor is going to rev a little higher in park because it is not being pulled down by the converter. As far as the needle moving 50-100 rpm in gear,I don't know.
