331 Combo help
Hello,
I am having the hardest time deciding on what parts to use to build a 331 stroker for my 1989 Mustang. It's an AOD and I plan on getting a replacement built by "Lentech" or "Performance Automatic". I know for sure that I want to use AFR 185 heads but cant decide on anything else. I'm probably going to buy a short or long block from "DSS Racing" or "X2C Motorsports" as they seem to have the best deals? My goal is 400hp natuarly aspirated, but I want to add a supercharger in the future. Do you think its worth getting the sportsman block or is the stock block and a girdle good enough. This might be unrealistic, but I cant spend over $5,000 on the engine. I have a total of about 9k-10k available to spend on this project and I have to divide it between the engine, transmission and the rear-end. All work is being done at an Uncle's shop so at least labor cost isnt an issue. What part combos do you guys think I should go with?
Thank You

RE: 331 Combo help
Well it's not like you can really just pick your internals as you must choose pistons depending on your compression ratio goal & being your going to be adding a supercharger you should keep it around 8.5 so depending on heads & pistons you will have to choose a piston to compression & yes a stock block is fine @ 400hp, I am doing a 331 myself right now using ross pistons, cast crank & forged rods along with a girdle, 28 oz flywheel & balancer, I'm expecting 425hp @ the wheels with 9 lb's of boost, the whole thing cost me under $2000 with the shop doing everything excpect taking it out & putting it back in "ofcourse" so that would still leave you $3k to play with so.
