Default studs on motor

Alright well I came to the conclusion that my motor I just pulled from my new stang that was sitting for like 8 years is no joke. Has anyone ever or heard of anyone putting 1/2 head studs on a 302. Because right now I don't think it is a 302 anymore lol. Anyway is there a way to tell the 302 and 351s apart? Because I know 351s you can put 1/2 head studs on like no problem but on a 302 you would have to do some machine work..

HOLY CRAP! First post I ever seen you make without a face in it! haha!

But seriously, measure your space between the heads and you will know right away if you got yourself a windsor.

Unless someone put a set of older windsor heads on your block which is a common head swap like I did.

measure the borexstroke?

get some measuring take or a ruler, turn the engine until one cylinder is at top dead center, and the opposite should be at bottom.

i think 302s have a 4 inch bore and a 3 inch stroke, and 351s have a larger bore, not sure about stroke, seems like an easy way to find out if you cant find the casting number

302 and 351w share the same bore size, different deck height-means longer stroke and wider valley

302 has 3" stroke, 351 has a 3 1/2" stroke.
302 has an 8.2" deckheight( distance from crank centerline to top of deck) 351 has a 9.5" deckheight.
351w also has a larger main bearing diameter (3" versus 2.75" for the 302).
The only 302 with 1/2" head bolts(stock) are 4 bolt main blocks. (A4, R302,Boss, ETC.)
Hope that clears everything up.
BTW I almost forgot.
Head studs make it extremely difficult/Virtually impossible to service/ remove heads with the motor still in the car!
Use ARP BOLTS instead, will hold four digit power w/ ease.
