Default Ignition switch problems

my 89 5.0 wont start, if i take a wire from the batery to the coil it will start however the battery dies, the Alt is giving a charge, but the battery dosnt keep it, * its a good battery * I've been told my Ignition switch may be bad, how can i check it ?

A bad Neutral safety switch can do this.


try to start in neutral or another gear.


Check for voltage at the switch after all that, ive seen the wire that goes from the switch to the top of the solenoid go bad.
