Runs for 10 mins, then wont start
Just had motor rebuilt('87 gt) and switched over from speed density to mass air w/ used A9l ecu that I picked up off ebay for $120. When I hook the battery up the car starts, but runs rough like the timing is off, then it starts to eventually smooth out enough to hold an idle. Not sure if that is the computer adapting to setup.(24lb injectors, 70mm accufab, ford E cam, ported E7's, cold air, etc.) THEN, after running for 10 mins or so I turned it off and it would not fire back up but it would crank over fine. It is getting good fuel, spark, and timing looks close. So I unhooked the battery and tried it again the next day, same exact result. Could this be ECU problem? I spliced into the VSS and fuel pump relay during the conversion. Could it be a sensor somewhere?? Anyone ever hear of anything similar?

Yep..... that ECM could be fubar however, you shouldn't go off and buy a replacement until you confirm that is the cause. Suggest to force the no start condition and do the test steps explained at How to Solve an EFI NO START .....and run the DIY KOEO/KOER/Cylinder Balance Self-Test ......you could have fuel pressure, but the injectors might not be opening. you do exactly whay Joel5.0 stated..when it won't start what are you missing??? fuel or spark??? one has to be absent.....without a gauge and a noid light you can't assume by looks it's gettting fuel nor by pressing the schredor valve..= that means diddly!! a noid light can verify injector pulse but Joel5.0's links will explain it all

like they said you are missing one or the other i just had a motor put in mine you should check into the tfi on the dist. cause if you check the power to the coil it will get it though the small wires plugged in and that may be missleading if not that it may be the pickup on the inside of the dist. in which case you would be better off just buying a rebuilt dist no sense in spending money on an aftermarket unless you are bracket racing or have a 331 plus stroker check the tfi and dont forget the grease just buy one they are under fourty dollars dont go for the expensive one for that price buy two of the cheap ones and keep one in the car, if you do buy it ask for the six dollar wrench you will need to complete the install, if it was your timing it wouldnt start at all it would pop like shes got fire but wouldnt crank im interested to hear which way this goes let us know
