Default AOD shift cable

Is it possible to change the cable between the shifter and AOD tranny with just a jack and jackstands in a driveway? I'm thinking about doing this myself, is it hard to do? I'm changing it because the car will only go into drive if i bring the shifter past the OD to the D if i bring it to OD it stays in neutral, that means a bad shift cable right? Thanks

Sounds like it just needs to be adjusted. And I don't know why everyone asks if something can be done with jackstands and a jack in a driveway. Pretty much anything can be done in a driveway. But if you do have to change the cable you should be able to. Just jack it up and take a look.
