Default life time of a 302?

How long will a 302 last if its drivin pretty good and not consitantly getting the hell ran outta it? like how many miles on the clock before it bites the dust? becasue my 86 5.0 GT has 164000 on it and has no mods yet except for silencer plate is off. And i hardley get on it just a daily driver. So how long till i havta get a new engine for it would you estimate?

probably the first thing thats gonna go on the thing is the oil pump. my friend takes care of his mustang(88 GT) and he does all the maintnence like oil, all fluids, brakes, rearend oil, transmission oil, everything and its got almost 260K on it, still drives good. although losing power with everymile but its a great daily driver, not to mention no winters and no rust. take care of it and it will take care of u.

put in 2 magnet oil pan plugs and a magnet around the oil filter to trap metal or a magnet on the bottom of the oil pan

Any engine can run 50k or 500k miles, depends on the maintenance and the way its ran. One word of advice though, its much cheaper to rebuild an otherwise healthy high mileage engine than an engine that has been locked up or blown. If your motor is in good condition then nothing more than a valve job, new valve springs, rings, rod and main bearings, and a gasket set is all that is needed (for the most part). For a 5.0 thats just a 250.00 investment. Now if you gotta get block work done, a new crank, pistons, rods, etc your gonna be at 750.00 real quick. My advice, do it now... don't wait until its too late.

you might want to buy a nice rebuilt one as with a season block it has already gone thru 1000's of heat cycles you could get a nice one for around $3500 and while saving for it keep on driving what ya got..just my thought
