When racing in the quarter, what rpm is should i shift at? redline is 6000 or a lil less, should i get it up to 6k then shift or shift a lil sooner? is there much a difference between 5500 to 6000 or is it a waste to wait till 6000?

I depends on what mods you have. Stock 5.0s make peak HP several hundred RMP b4 redline. When you are at the track adjust your shift points to see what works best. The more you mod the more you will have to try other shift points to see what works.

when I had my stock cam, I would shift at 5300rpm, because I could feel the power drop off there.
if you have gears, shift a little sooner, and it will bring you into the powerband sooner.

Stock 5.0's powerband ends around 5000rpm.
