Default Newbie 5.0 Owner problem/question????

Just came into possession of 1991 GT convertible, w/ 40K miles. Drove it 900+ miles from FL to VA a week ago - - no problems at all. Was driving locally yesterday (cloudy-no rain), sitting at light, and car just dies. It will crank, but will not start. No other symptoms (that I am aware of) prior to this happening.

Is there anything quirky about the fuel pump (or other fuel system component) that would result in this dramatic effect?

TIA,
Ken

Doubt your fuel pump would go out like that, althouh it is possible.

Check to make sure your coil didn't go out of your wire from the coil isn't bad.

Do you smell fuel in the exhuast after cranking? If so then the fuel pump is working but your spark is not. If you don't smell fuel then it could be either or.

just try cranking it and then pull a spark pull and if it has fuel on it you know you dont have spark abd if it doesn't it is fuel

I have had numerous ignition problems and this sounds like what you may have. First my coil went out. Then a week later my control module went out. I would suggest replaceing plugs, wires, distributer cap, coil, and contriol mod. Trust me it is a pain in the *** to replace 1 then a week later the rest craps out on ya. But an easy way to check is to have someone sit in drivers seat to turn the key pull your coil wires on the cap to check for spark..if no spark your coil is bad...if there is a spark then move on to checking your control mod. ...pull one of your plug wires from disrtibuter and have four friend turn key if no spark then replace the control mod..if there is spark then I dunno WTF is going on.

The control module is mounted to your distributer.

Default Relaced Fuel Pump Relay - no effect.

Thanks, for the suggestions . . . I replaced the fuel pump relay under the driver's seat (figured it was a relatively cheap option), but no change -- cranks but does not start.

Will try a few of the suggestions and report back . . .
