Back from the track....did worse than last time!!
Well...last time at the track I ran a 13.47@104mph with a 60' time in the 1.9 range.
Since then, I recurved my dizzy, installed an underdrive crank pulley and swaped my carter 600 for a holley 750 vac. secondary.
Tonight, I was running consistant 13.8's with trap speeds at barely over 100mph(100.81)!!
My 60' time were only in the 2.01-2.1 range.
My friend says my rpms sounded lazy for the first 60' and then picked up very well after that. I had no tire spin.
I experienced some detonation in 3rd gear and back the timing down a couple degrees....same results.
I think my secondaries are coming in too quick but I forgot to bring the different springs for the secondaries.
Since my mph was down, that means I lost hp somewhere.
What happened? I though the Holley would really make a huge difference but instead, I think it hurt my times.
What do you think is wrong? I have yet to install the stealth intake. Is it possible that the performer intake in even more of a bottle neck now that there is a bigger carb or is it in the adjustment of the Holley somewhere?
This thing should be running 12's by now and I'm high 13's now. I was sooo pissed I felt like putting a FOR SALE sign on the car tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Back from the track....did worse than last time!!
I think the 2 biggest problems with carb set-ups is over carbing (to much CFM) and not tuning efficently. What is your current engine set-up? What kind of HP do you think your making? Keep in mind that if your getting no wheel spin off the line and the car is really luggin down this usually helps E.T but hurts MPH. Slight wheel spin will increase you trap speeds. You did lose some at the 60' times which didn't help the overall time so I would say you have some tuning issues of some sort anyways. Try tuning the current carb and if not try going back to the 600CFM. Unless your running hogged out heads and big exhaust and cam your best bet would be a 600CFM carb anyways.

I "think" the holley came with 72 primary jets and I'm wondering if I should jet it down to maybe a 68 and re-install the factory secondary spring. Right now, it has the lightest spring possible.(it came off a friend's car).
The carter was running out of fuel at 5K and would not pull to 6K. The holley solved that problem. It isn't as if my setup can't use a 750. I've seem 750's on 302's with less mods.
I think I should wait until I install the stealth intake and THEN go back to T&T to get a new baseline.
Then, I'll tweak the holley and go from there.
There is NO reason why I shouldn't be able to run 12's now with the my current parts....none.

The parts are there for 12's no doubt but as you stated is appears that tuning is needed and pointless if your changing the new intake soon. Sounds like you need to pop on your new intake and go for a good dyno tune. I have seen amazing results with dyno tuning. There was a carbed 302CI putting down over 400rwph and with a couple slight changes he added almost 20 more additional rwhp. Once you get your timing, fuel, air, exhaust together.......hang on.

RE: Back from the track....did worse than last time!!
rejet 600....used a lighter sec spring and a faster ramp throttle cams..this will help..I would also add long nozzle tube as well and maybe a 50cc pump.....also can mill the hone on the 600 for about 25 more cfm...that 750 might have helped a tap on top end but in no way will have crisp throttle respionse that you need at the track.....go up 4 jet sizes on the rear of the 600 then check plugs
