Fuel problem?? Help!

Fuel problem?? Help!
Hey all,
I have an 89 Gt 5.0. In hasn't ran in about a year...finally the bug crawled up my ***, and I'm determined. A bit new to the auto world so bear with me. Just before it broke down, whenever I'd step on the gasthere would be no reaction and the motor would make a knocking noise (it wasn't all the time, but became more frequent), then all of a sudden the power would kick in. The day it broke down, I was on the freeway with the pedal floored, and only reaching maybe 40 mph. I've recently replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs, and ignition cables, and still nothing. There is no detonation, the motor just keeps turning over. I'm sure it's a fuel problem because I can spray a little intake manifold cleaner down and it'll fire up just fine for a second but then die. I'm not sure if its the fuel pump because when I turn the ignition on, I can hear it prime. My question is even if it primes could it still not be working? My only other thought is maybe I have a problem with the injectors?? Could it be a valve issue?
Any help is much appreciated...

RE: Fuel problem?? Help!
You need to get a fuel presure guage on the fuel rails on the motor. It can be bad injectors bad fuel regulatoror a bad fuel pump. Just cause it primes doesn't mean it's workin right. fuel presure should be near 35psi. If you have the fuel pressure, and it holds then you may have cloged injectors. If you dont have the fuel presure I sugest starting with the fuel regulator as they are easy to change and are on top of the motor. If still no pressure than the fuel pump in the gas tank.
