I am considering purchasing a 1989 Mustang LX Convertible. The car still has the original top which is white and has a few stains on it. I plan on changing to it a black top. I've looked around and heard that its easiest to have someone in the shop do it and estimates are near $800. Is it really that hard to just change the white cloth to a black one? All the parts to the top work fine so would I still need a whole kit or would just the cloth satisfy? Does anyone have any tips or experience with this? Thanks.

its best to let a trim shop install it, unless you know what you're doing. they are not easy, at all, to install. takes alot of force to stretch it over the frame, then lining it up correctly isnt easy either.

take it to a shop...it is a major pita! Next one of mine(if I ever do) will go to a shop, I swear it took me 12 hours total..

yeah that job is something worth spending the extra cash on..its not worth the time or hassle to do it yourself
