my car is a 84 carbed 5.0 yester day i changed my fuel pump because the old one went out and i tried starting it and i turned the key to start it and it didnt start with in 30 seconds then a i turned the key and took the key out and the starter kept tryng to start the car it did that un til i removed the batery or took my foot off the clutch so i dont no whats going on there can any one help???

 

clould have a selonoid sticking/ fenderwell one

 

yeah i think so cuz now it smokes

 

what would cause it to do that because i thats the second time i replaced it of or am i getting lame selionds

 

Get one from ford. Stay away from bwd and gp sorenson. I had that same problem with my 85 the bwd ones would work for about 3 months then start doing that. Then i tried gp sorenson and it did it the first time and it damaged the insides of the part and it was done for good. went to ford and got there part never had problems again.

 

ok but would the car star even though the selonoind is sticking??

 

high resistance in a cable or connection or excessive current draw due to bad windings in a starter
