Default Suspension

Question? I have a 91 mustang GT covt. Recently I did some upgrades to the suspension, which included ford motorsport lowering springs in the rear and a coilover kit in the front. Also went with new KYB struts and shocks and CC plates. On the surface streets it drives fine but on the expressway it is very touchy/ it likes to wander! Also the steering feel got very light. Is it the alignment?

I have a GT convertible too, and that happens to me too...but I have stock stuff.

I think that some of the suspension bushings are worn...but which ones I have no clue. If you figure it out let me know.

This is pretty common of fox body mustangs. Mine is stable up to around 100 or so but the steering gets light after that. When I was younger and dumber I had my 93GT up to around 135 on the highway and could not keep it in one lane. You could not pay me to do that again. The car was only 4 years old at the time and had an alignment so I dont think it was a matter of worn out suspension parts. My best guess is these things have very little front downforce but thats only a guess. The speed limit here in CO is 75 and everyone goes 90+ and mine does not wander much at those speeds.

I live 20 miles away from I70 here in Colorado and I do 85+ on the interstate, doesn't do too bad.

I've had mine up to around 100 as well and my steering also wound up getting pretty loose kind of like a floating feeling. It could easily be the downforce, especially with the way the front end of a fox mustang is designed they don't look all that aerodynamic.

all stock mustangs do that its the air up underr the hood that cant get out bc we dont have a cowl hood on are cars. if you get a cowl hood it will let the air out and it wont float like that anymore

Before I did the suspension upgrades It wandered a little but it really wan't that bad. Since I made the upgrades and the car is more resposive I notice it alot more especially if the road is uneven!

Good Question??? The guy that did the work for me decieded to put the coilovers on instead of what I wanted because he said that I would like them better. Well, all I know is that they are red and I have no idea where the guy went to ask him what lbs the springs are. Do you think that they are to light to handle the weight of the fromt end? If this is what you are thinking you may be right because every once in a while the front end of the car will bounce like it had worn out shocks. This is what I get when I don't do the work myself!
