Yeah, but now with the 4.10's it's a whole different story.. Im lucky to see 20mph in 1st, and 40 in second!!! LOL

then that isnt good if youre shifting out of first at 20mph and second at 40. means you run out of gear before traps. when making real power

Why would they make a 4.10 gear then, because that's about all you're going to get out of it with that ratio.. And what do you mean by traps? I kill just about everything around with street tires, can't imagine what it will be like with the Radials.. Plus this is just for now, it will change with my new cam and heads...

trap is your speed in the 1320.. for example my top speed with my car was 130mph in 3rd with 327s...i went to 410s and top speed was now 105 on 26 in tires.. when i drove in OD [modded as 4th i could only hit 130] so now think about this. so now if i had abuilt motor and get some serious speeds that means i need to run in OD..which is a very poor ratio to drive in

same as a 5 speed. you dont want to be in 5th going thru the traps. you want hte highest rpm in the lowest gear for the traps......this is why steepest gear isnt always best. you need to match your setup. now if you had a high winding motor then very steep gears are benefical but our motors dont go that high

Right I understand that, in the traps I am at about 4500 RPM in 4th and running at 93MPH with the 4.10's... I know it will be much different once I get my cam and heads though.. Let me ask you this ohsoquick..

I put 1.7 roller rockers on my stock heads, but I have CAI, 73MM MAF 70mm TB and Trick Flow up/low intake, the 1.7s and full exhaust with no cats.. When I put on my roller rockers, my powerband went whacko because the cam specs are really weird as like 218/218 470/470 with a 116 LS... You think I would be better off getting 1.6 Roller rockers and do you think my performance would improve if I got rid of the 1.7's ... I am thinking my springs cant handle the extra lift or something because it seems like my valves are floating...

chances are your springs are worn. i woudl change them forsure. with added lift you can gain some rpm. now 1.7s are a nice improvement for stock cam and heads. i honestly think your 70tb is too large for now. once you get more mods youll be fine. you were better off with a 65 for now.. also if you wanted to you could retard that cam some and gain a few more upper rpm hps.....also rule of thumb yoru maf should be 5 or more of your tb. that isnt the case for stock.

Yes I realize I went large, but it is not for performance NOW, it is for performance down the road, after heads and cam.. Do you think I should change the springs now or just wait until I get my new set of heads, I am really not worried abotu optimal ET's right now, just saving for the heads anyhow..
