Default FI vs Carb?

I have a 88 conv and want to get some good power out of it. Looking for approx 400rwhp. Will is be better to stick with FI or switch to a carb? The car will not be a daily driver so gas milage doesn't matter, just looking for the best way to get that power.

Dont switch to carb. You can get the most power out of FI and it is a hell of a lot easier to tune.

I would have to disagree with these guys(no offense). If you want power go carb. The newer fuel injection systems restrict the power of the car. Carb systems are easier to tune with modifications. They make more cheap power than FI. Any body who builds motors will agree that for cheap, quick, and easy power go carbeurated. The only reason I prefer FI is because I daily drive my car. I've seen a case in car craft where a stock 5.0 with a carbeurator has made 278 hp. THis is much more than a stock fuel injected 5.0. Good luck man

For a daily driver, FI is the best choice. Weekend play car, and strip car, carb is the winner. The only time I would consider FI for the strip or weekend car, is with 15 psi or more of boost.

The car is going to just be a weekend car so it sounds like I will go Carb. Never converted a FI to Carb is it difficult to do?

It is fairly easy if you do it the correct way to start with. This is the best write up on doing it.

http://www.jason.fletcher.net/tech/e...b/efi-carb.htm

If you are going for over 325 hp, get a gas tank from a carb car, or buy one of the after market fuel pickups for carb cars, or go fuel cell if going over 450 hp. You can use the stock FI fuel pump with a return regulator, but the small FI lines and using the high pressure, low quanity FI pump are with a carb will crap out around 325 hp.

Good luck on which route you take.
