302 cleveland???
Iknow this is a mustang forum but this is blowin my mind. Picked up a 70 1/2 ford falcon today. It hasthe original302 in it. This thing has mad compression. What i find weird is that it takes an autolite 45 spark plug. These things are big, nothin like i've ever seen in a small block, its probably twice as big as the autolite 25's in my 5.0. Now i remember hearing that some of these old falcons came with an aussie 302, which i think was a 302 cleveland. I don't know if its true but these motors supposedly were 11.4:1 compression. Anyone have any info?

RE: 302 cleveland???
This engine was built only in Australia, and was intended to give their consumers a five liter alternative to the 351 Cleveland as the Ford "Windsor" series of engines was not commonly available there. Utilizing a locally produced 351 Cleveland block, 302 cubic inches (4.9 L) was attained by reducing the stroke of the 351C from 3.5 to 3 inches (89 to 76 mm). Additionally, the 302C cylinder heads were designed locally, with smaller combustion chamber to compensate for the reduced stroke of the engine. These heads interchange directly onto 351C engines, and are highly sought outside of Australia as a low-cost method to increase compression ratio.
Australian 302 Cleveland head produced from 1972 to November 1982 has 57.8cc quench chamber, stock 2V ports and the small 2.05/1.65 valves (larger than the 'big' fuelie chev valves however). There are no marks on the top corners, and the casting mark runs vertically up the middle of the ends of the head. Casting nbr is under intake ports, prefixed AR (eg. ARD1AE)

RE: 302 cleveland???
Damn boys, i thought i was onto somethin. I was ready to put the short block in my mustang . I'm glad you guys got me straightened out on that though. No compression check yet mjr. Would these heads be a good upgrade from the e7's? I have another 5.0 and i was thinkin about puttin it ona stand and building it also. This old falcon revs up way quicker than my 5.0 did stock. Is the car itself worth anything?
