Default Snapping sound on accel??? Stumped.

On medium to hard acceleration there is a snapping or clicking sound that increases in frequency with vehicle speed. It happens both while riding the clutch out and with it fully out. I cannot seem to make it happen in 4th or 5th gear, or maybe I am just not hearing it then or there is not enough torque available in those gears. If I accelerate very slowly or coast, it does not happen. I had a mechanic look at it and he says the u-joints are fine and the rear end is fine. He says the pressure plate fingers could be coming apart and I should put it on a lift and try to hear where the noise is coming from. I will try this in a bit and post back. Thanks again!

Ok, I have some new news on the issue. The large metal thing bolted to the axle with rubber bushings (seen in pic) can be twisted side to side and hit metal by hand. Also if you hit it with your hand, it bangs the axle and makes a metal on metal banging sound. Is this normal or is this my problem. Can I put new bushings in it to solve the problem. Also, what is this even called or there for? I also noticed that one of the metal rear trans mounts (upper) is cracked. Maybe this is my problem??

WE had thought about taking that giant chunk of metal off our rear end. I assume it's just to protect it if you were to drive over something.

Ok, now I feel stupid. The part that was cracked was not the trans mount, it is the exhaust hanger. It is cracked right in the middle and it looks like someone ground it so the two halves would not touch. I think there is no way that could cause any sort of sound. I also don't think that large metal thing bolted to the axle could vibrate enough to create a sound either. Back to being stumped.

that chunk of metal on the rear axle is a weight that is meant to soak up vibrations it shouldn't move much try tightning it down and see if it goes away. when i had my rear axle built by DTS they said to leave it off for weight savings and also that it isnt needed. so maybe try taking it off if tightning it doesnt make the sound go away

WOW, THANKS! That chunk of metal on the diff was really tight already, so I took it off and NO MORE NOISE!! Awesome, a free fix! How often does that happen??
