Default Help...Wheel Hop

I have an 89 5.0lx coupe....When spin the wheels it hops and makes a clunking sound...Any ideas what this could be...its coming from the rear passenger side....Sometimes you can hear the clunking sound while I'm driving also it comes and goes then....Any help would be greatly appreciated.

so only when the wheels hop you hear your clunking noise or periodically you hear clunking under normal driving conditions?

the wheel hop is due to your crappy stock control arms, swap those out with something else and wheel hop is fixed. as for your clunk if it happens periodically than the wheel hop may have cause some damage in your rear end.

Sounds like the control arm bushings are shot. Or the quad shocks are loose.

I do have the junk they call control arms still on there...I removed my quad shocks for wheel clearance. Do you think that is a comtributing factor? Do you think I need to change both upper and lower?

How hard are the bearings in the rear-end to change?

if you took off the quad shocks and are still running the stock u/l control arms that'd be the reason you're wheel hoppin.

rear end bearings are easy....you just need a slide hammer and the proper adapter on the slide hammer which comes in the kit when you rent it from lets say....autozone or other various places that rent tools. to put the bearing back in a socket nearly match the outside diameter of the bearing. put the socket on top of the bearing and tap it back into place.

easy as cake to replace.....getting to it is a different story
