Default Rebuild vs Crate.

I have a 86 Gt with 140k on it and im looking at either a rebuild or a crate motor. Just trying to get an idea of which way i should go. Basically just looking for the best bang for my buck. Thanks guys. oh yeah and im thinkin if i end up with the rebuild i may do low comp with a turbo kit or something along those lines. I just want to know where i should be heading.

Well there's one major difference between built yourself and crate...warranty. Built motor = no warranty, crate has typically some sort of warranty.

Default rebuild

rebuild what youve got and throw some speed parts in there... you can get more power from and save a good deal of money...

or go all out and get a stroker from Fordstrokers, best company to get one from... that where I'll be going for my future 347

way cheaper to build your own, i got a master rebuild kit from summit (hypereutectic pistons) and reused my stock crank and rods, ending up with 308 cu in, machine work including balancing with parts i have less than 1000$ in my bottom end!

verses a crate engine for no less than 2g`s for a short block 306, 302 or 310 cu in!

you have money left over to buy heads cam intake and some other things you might want!
yeah a warranty comes with crate engines but i have never heard of anyone holding there end on warranties!
theres always a catch 22 somewhere!

I recommend going mostly stock (rebuild) with ported heads and getting a used SN Paxton supercharger for the power increase. Also won't thow off your SD computer.

i would rebuild the block is nice and seasoned there will be no shifting or moving of the bock itself so tolerances will stay tighter longer. that and you can build it to what you like and have bragging rights after you beat someone. or you can say yeah i just bought a crate engine dropped it in and went.

woody sells shortblocks and longblocks...after building a shortblock, and the bearings going south...then had a shop build the shortblock...take my freakin advise and at the minimum buy a shortblock from woody, its cheaper and its the same as if you would have a local shop do it, been there done that got the t shirt. you do it once you realize how much of a pita it is, i will prob go longblock next time lol
