if you drive it hard enough that the brakes fade, then you need to do something, but better pads (Hawk HP+) may do the trick.
you can get well over $1000 in aftermarket brakes.

unless it sees track use I 'd just use stock rotors and either EBC GREEN STUFF OR red stuff pads

Turn the rotors, replace the calipers (for the $19.99 with steel pistons it's worth it) and get the Maximum Motorsports brake upgrade kit. It's $246 but it does make a difference. I'm assuming you're still rolling with drums on the back(?).

I'm running EBC on my wife's Expedition, and they tend to leave ceramic deposits on the rotors, causing a slight rapid pulse in braking after about 7K miles. May not happen on the 'Stangs since they are a tad lighter than the Expeditions!

Amen! I went to Discount about 6 years ago, picked up a can of Ford blue high temp paint, pulled my calipers without even disconnecting the hoses, gave them a once-over with soapy water, and sprayed them. They still look awesome, even up close when I pulled the rotors to be machined two weeks ago. In a world full of low-quality cheap crap, you gotta love something cheap and good!
