Default Timing maybe?

So I just got my car up and running again. And im idleing the car and it idles perfectly. When i grab the throttle and put it up, say 1/2+ throttle it pops really loud. I havent set the timing just yet, just did it a little by ear. Is this because the timing is off? or could it be lack of fuel (tiny tiny fuel pump (60lph) with a H/C/I 302)

well for one if it's an efi car , timing must be set with spout out and using a gun for accuracy

I know how to set the timing, im just seeing if a car that isnt set perfectly in time will pop like that with a little throttle.

yes it would, but that fuel pump is almost half the volume of a stock 302 mustang pump. upgrade the pump and do the timing right, you'll be fine.

i know im getting a fuel pump tomorrow, the car has just been down for a month or so, so i was making sure it ran before i started tearing other things apart. So if I set the timing and it still pops, what can that mean?

post a video of the noise if it still does it, could have a lean condition, or vaccum leaks contributing to lean condition, but take it one step at a time, do the above then go from there

well you could try doing a base idle reset by disconnecting your battery for like 30-45 mins and disconnecting the IAC. then run the car and get it to operating temperature and set the throttle body screw then shut it off then plug iac back in
