Default electrical problem

alright so ive got a 408 92 gt with a 3g alt swap. ive got a 150amp inline fuze running from the alt to the starter solenoid. it ran great for over a year, now everytime i try to put the battery cables on it shorts and blows the fuze. i had the alt tested at autozone and its good. i also checked and changed the starter solenoid. no luck. the first time it blew the fuze i didnt realize and the car was idleing for a little while. the alt got hott to the touch after about 15 min. im assuming its something internal with the alt b.c even with the fuze blown there is still a connection between the starter solenoid and the alt using an ohm meter. even though it still puts out juice. is there anything else i should check or any ideas on what it could be?

ok a few things first whats idle voltage out put?
and if the diodes are shorted to ground that would cause it.

52 rt beside chips volvo repair. no you dont have to replace it .. i can reman it for like 95 dollars with a new rectifier and a regulator. if the rectifier have wiped out the stator then thats a new story.but still fixable.

ahh the posts are getting screwed up. thanks for the info. i guess ill have to find a specialty shop here in VA for the time being. see if they can do something about it until i get home. that really pisses me off though its only a month old. so say when i check the ground and there isnt a connection. is there anyting else to check besides the basics like wires being tight and stuff?
