Default what cam for stock motor/springs

i just finished tearing down my 302 and the rebuild starts as soon as i measure the block/crank and hopefully no machining is necessary. well i'm doing a stock rebuild but i'd like a little better cam than stock, plus the stocker looks a little wore. i plan on getting some gt40 heads for the motor so what are some suggestions for cams that i won't need to modify my valve setup. i know i'll prolly need rr and ofcourse different pushrods. any suggestions? all i was thinking of is ford ecam, tfs stage 1, maybe the steeda #18. suggestions all welcome.

no the 347 is going back in this car. i figure i got this ol' 302 in the garage i figured i'd rebuild. then some time when i stumble into one i'll buy a fox with a blown 5.0 and swap this one in. thats why i said the steeda 18 since this will most likely be going into a fox.

if it's going in a fox eventually, I'd go with the tfs stage 1 and gt-40 ported heads and maybe a tubular gt-40 intake and , that'd be a decent street machine

I'd get the TrickFlow Stg-1 cam. It sounds good and has a good powerband. I did not have any problems with drive ability and I have an auto like you. Plus the cam is $160 at Summit, so it's not too pricey.

well i'm not sure what tranny the car will have but i'd like a stick. looks like the tfs stage 1 then. how much power will this make with bolt ons and an unported gt40 setup(heads/intake)

The TFS 1 has a max lift of .510. Thats way beyond the recommended lift for the stock springs. I bought the upgraded valve springs from tfs(.542max lift) as well as the tfs1 cam. I have been using the E303 with the stock springs for a while and havent noticed any ill side effects, but that doesnt mean they're not there. I'll be selling the E cam after next week when I do my GT40p/cam install. Let me know if you want it...

Why don't you put some stronger springs on your GT40s so you can run a nice cam without worrying about valve float?
