Default 5.0 hold up???

I'm looking at a 1988 Mustang GT with a new t-5 trans, clutch, gears, shifter and a bunch of little stuff. But right now the odometer says 89,503 but in in 96 it showed 7K but thats because it rolled over. So im thinking its a 189K miles. How much longer will this thing hold up?? The guy is asking $3900 and for that price I can get one with less than 100K but without a new trans or anything. What do you guys thinks???

your not going to buy a 5.0 for reliability for that cheap, if it was well maintained it should last a while but your always giving it hell dont expect it to last forever

you need to go look at it and look at the interior you can always rebuild a engine or buy a new motor but the interior should be in good condition if i was to buy it

If the guy says he wants 3900 then you can talk him down at least five hundred if your good. My car was listed at 4800 and I bought it for 4250. Just tell him you know the odometer rolled over once and you think that 3300 would be a fair price and dont say it like your hesitating. If he says no go up a hundred and tell him that thats your final amount, if he says no walk away. If you really do want his car cll him back later on and ask him what he thinks about 3500 since thats all you can afford. Or you can try your way and see how it works.

Thats exactly what I was thinking too, except I was going to come out with $3000, because when I talked to him he was really pushing the negotiable part. And that will leave me with enough money down the road to do engine work. I'll call him back in a couple of hours. I've called on like 10 cars in a span of 2 weeks and hes only the 2nd person to answer his phone, no one else will. ~weird~[&:]
