Widest Rims that will fit
#24
I am running 275/40/17x10.5 in back and 245/45/17x9 in front so that the tires have the same rolling diameter. I have the quad shock removed and my rims are extremely deep dished so that the back spacing is correct. You don't have to do any fender work. My car is also lowered 1.75 inches in the rear. I saw someone say that 275's fit best on a 9 inch wide rim, which is wrong. You can fit it but the best fit is on a 10.5 inch rim. A 275 tire is 10.8 inches wide. If you are going with 17's I would go with 17x9 inch rims with 245/45/17 tires all the way around. This is a common tire size so that you can get tires cheaper plus you can rotate tires. This will save you a lot of money in the long run and you will get pretty good hook with 245's.

I understand what you are talking about as far as footprint or actual tread width. It doesen't really have to do with manufactuer but it has more to do with aspect ratio of the sidewall. The taller the skinnier. A 40 series 275 has a footprint of dang near 10.5. I have measured. But I bet you side wall to side wall my 275 street tire is dang close to your 275 drag radial. My 275 on 10.5 rims fits well. My side walls are perpendicular to the road there is no stretch. I put on numerous tires a day and I put these on my self. You know when a tire is stretching to fit when you have to bead blast it to get it on. I had to actually push the sidewall down in order to get the arm of the mounting machine on. So saying a 275 has to stretch to get on a 10.5 rim is not true. I do these all day.
