17's are nice, but im thinking of going with 15's.

Has anyone run 15X9 welds with 5.5 backspacing? What do you do to get them fit on the car with 275/50 15 MT's?

I am running 275/40/17x10.5 in back and 245/45/17x9 in front so that the tires have the same rolling diameter. I have the quad shock removed and my rims are extremely deep dished so that the back spacing is correct. You don't have to do any fender work. My car is also lowered 1.75 inches in the rear. I saw someone say that 275's fit best on a 9 inch wide rim, which is wrong. You can fit it but the best fit is on a 10.5 inch rim. A 275 tire is 10.8 inches wide. If you are going with 17's I would go with 17x9 inch rims with 245/45/17 tires all the way around. This is a common tire size so that you can get tires cheaper plus you can rotate tires. This will save you a lot of money in the long run and you will get pretty good hook with 245's.

too late... already have the rims at my house haha. How does she handle without the quad shock in place? mine are deep dished too so i hope i dont have to do too much custom work... but i'm fully willing to need be, but we will have to see.

What your attempting to talk about is the footprint left by the tire. What your not saying is that not every 275 tire pre say is created equal. The only thing they have in common for the most part is the size they say they are from each manufacturer. I guarantee my MT ET Street Radials are wider than your "normal" 275 street tire. When you start to stretch a tire out wider than it's supposed to go you take the stability out of the sidewall and the tire doens't perform as well. Just like if you stick too wide a tire on a wheel you get a smaller footprint than if you put the correct size on there. You wouldn't catch me putting a normal radial 275 on a 10.5 rim, perhaps a 285-305 though.

I understand what you are talking about as far as footprint or actual tread width. It doesen't really have to do with manufactuer but it has more to do with aspect ratio of the sidewall. The taller the skinnier. A 40 series 275 has a footprint of dang near 10.5. I have measured. But I bet you side wall to side wall my 275 street tire is dang close to your 275 drag radial. My 275 on 10.5 rims fits well. My side walls are perpendicular to the road there is no stretch. I put on numerous tires a day and I put these on my self. You know when a tire is stretching to fit when you have to bead blast it to get it on. I had to actually push the sidewall down in order to get the arm of the mounting machine on. So saying a 275 has to stretch to get on a 10.5 rim is not true. I do these all day.
