Default 87-93 Stang

Hey guys,

First post here...hope I can get some input. I've owned several Mustangs in the past years. I keep going back to the 87-93 Mustang. There's something about 'em that I just love! Anyway, my question is this: is it easier to buy a 90-93 and install a tilt steering column from an 89 model, or buy an 89 and install 90-93 front fenders and speedometer cluster (140 mph cluster)? I really like the tilt steering wheel, but I also like the 140 mph speedometer. I plan to run a 17x9 or 18x9 rim, so I need the 90-93 front fenders. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!!

The 89 has a 140 speedo and you should be able to run 17X8's or 17X9's on a 89 as well. My suggestion is to find a clean well taken care of 87-93. Just keep in mind that 87 and 88 are SD cars and can be problem prone to some mods and real picky on cams. I have a 87 and love it though and will be testing some of the limits of SD soon,

Thanks for the info, guys. I had a 89 Notchback and the speedo only went to 85...I was thinking that all of 'em were like that.

How difficult/expensive is it to swap to mass air on a pre-89? I heard that some 88 models in California were mass air as well.

Thanks for the advice on the wheels, too. I'm just a little concerned on what size of wheel/tire combo I can fit in the front without rubbing too much.

well they changed the fenders to accomodate the bigger wheels and tire package they put on the mustang in 1991.
