Default I need Auto Trans Help

I have an automatic transmission that I just started having problems with and I need to know if anyone knows what my problem is?

Just one day out of the blue I was driving down the road and the car would not go. I'd give it gas and nothing. So I had the car towed home. Well the next day I jumped in and the car went into gear normal and drove normal for about a mile or two down the road and the transmission quit on me again.

So this time I left it there for about 4 or 5 hours and went back out there and started up the car and again it went into gear fine and I was able to make it back home.

I've played around in the yard and my street a little and I've noticed that as soon as the motor and trans gets warmed up, it will not go anymore, but if I let it cool down it starts working again.

Does anyone know what my problem could be. I've got around 120k miles on it.

Like said already check your level. When a auto trans gets too hot it will start to slip which is what your trans is doing.

aode?
makes a whine noise?

my aftermarket converter burned the clutches out on the backside one day, they got so hot it burned a ring in the paint in a circle around the studs. it would just slip and whine. if i shut the car off sometimes it would work temporarily and then start doing it again.

make sure the tranny is warm when you check the fluid in park running.

The fluid level is fine. But the fluid looks a little dark brown instead of red.

How would I know if my trans is getting too hot and what would cause it to overheat like that?

Please tell us what transmission it is. You could have a powerglide for all we know.

If my trans got hot, does that mean that my transmission is ruined?
