So, you don't trust the stock block because you know who owned it befor you. And you think it would be better to swap in a 351W from a junk yard? How is not knowing who was thrashing the car (because who puts a 351W in a car to baby it?) better than knowing who was thrashing on the car? Just my .02
I'd fix the heads and go from there. You said you want to get it up and running again, engine swap takes longer than head gasket fix/ head swap.
not to mention like 86 5.0L said, a 351W bolted to a T5 is like smashing a nut with a sledge hammer, there are easier ways to break your tranny. lol.
So now your total price just went up...
But if you do go with the swap, then like fivepointooh said, its a 302 only bigger...and most of the parts swap out.

thanks. i like all your ideas. my ideas were 351 now or 347 later actually. i tore the heads off. its indeed the passeneger side head is cracked. so need one. i really want the gt40 heads whether i upgrade or not. i have been looking for awhile for them for a decent price actaually. you said just pay shipping? where do you live?

yeah well like i said after thinking about it and ripping the head off i am just gonna replace it. just hope i get a good deal one some. than later i get 347. thanks for the opinions. just thought i would ask some mustang guys a question like that. and to the whole 351 being a bigger 3o2, well it would be until i got the money to uprgrade. but anyways. just fixing the heads and getting it up and running again is what im going for. this summer is when the power is going in

and btw the engine is the stock block with it bored to 306. my bad with the stroker wasnt really paying attention when i was typing. like i said other than the bore the cam and some minor stuff like a cheap air filter and crappy exhaust the car is stock.

FL cracker9 has a very good point in saying basically it is trickle down effect for every bit of Hp you increase you have to replace drivetrain components to handle the extra power. It all comes down to how much money you want to spend and how reliable you need it to be.

yeah i konw. pretty much my plan is that at the moment just get the car to be as reliable as i can for cheap. once i actually have the extra time to pull it apart, well thats when the money is going in. i got the car for a project in the first place, and i love it, but with all (4) of my other vehicles broke now at the same time, i need this one up and running asap. but really thanks guys for your opinions. made me think about my options. thanks

I live in South Florida, but the heads I referred to are the stock E7 heads, not GT40s. Like I said, if you want to pay shipping, PM me and we can work it out, but to be honest, you should be able to find a stock head for less than it would cost to have one shipped. I just looked on ebay (searched for GT40 heads), and there are several sets on there. Also a few sets in the classifieds on the Mustang Corral. Just make sure you are getting what you pay for. A lot of people advertise GT40s, when in reality, they have GT40Ps. Nothing wrong with the Ps, but you may have spark plug boot clearance issues with the P heads. Lots of guys run the P heads on their 302s, I even have them on 351W in a pickup.
