people say that it has been fixed but they cant fix the problem it has to much stroke and you will have oil problems in the future thats why if you are going to stroke a 302 everybody is going with a 331

Default RE: 347 Stroker Oil Problem

I found this a minute ago, someone give me some input?

Part #SF3472N.O.B. (Non Oil Burner)

Crank: SCAT Cast Steel (Special) 3.400 stroke
Pistons: Probe Forged Flat Top 10.4:1 CR w/61cc
Rods: 4340 Forged Steel I-Beam, 5.315 W/ 7/16 Bolt
Bearings/Rods & Mains: Clevite 77 'P' bearing
Balancer: SFI Approved steel style 28 or 50 oz.
Flexplate: SFI approved 157 or 164 teeth, 28 or 50 oz.
Balance: High performance street/strip,
Piston and rods matched +- 1 gram

This kit is designed for the Ford Folks who have heard the 347 stroker oil burning nightmares that are caused by the piston pin being located in the oil ring groove. This kit eliminates the possibility of oil being burned because the piston pin is separate from and located below the oil ring groove. This is achieved by using a shorter 5.315" rod. By using a shorter rod, a special ground crank must be used to insure proper clearance between the crank counterweights and the pistons. The cast steel crank is a special grind from the folks at Scat that allows the use of the shorter 5.315" rod. The pistons are the standard quality 2618 alloy piston that we have all come to expect from the good folks at PROBE Industries. The rods are our own brand that we have been supplying for years. They are a high quality 4340 steel rod that is finished overseas. Because they are finished overseas, it allows our customers to purchase them for substantially less than any of our competitors 4340 steel rods. Clevite 77 is the standard when it comes to bearings and we use them on both rods and the mains. Pioneer is our choice for a quality steel balancer. We also like it's popularity based on the number of orders we have gotten from coast to coast Ford owners. The flexplate is a high quality SFI approved product distributed by the same folks that make the crank for this kit, Scat. The balance job is performed on the world famous "Hines" balance machine. We take the time to proudly balance the assembly to within plus or minus 1 gram before it is carefully packaged up and sent to our valued customers.

Ok, so with the oil burning problem resolved, whats a typical failure of the motor causing the longevity to be shorter than a 331? Sorry if it seems like i'm a n00b to this, i'm just not knowledgable when it gets down to stroker kits.

its too long of a stroke and over time it wont last and the 331 has a shorter stroke so it lasts longer

In an interview with MM&FF, Coast High Performance (ones who fixed oil burning problem by reloation of the wristpin hole) said they offer the 331 for those "gunshy" of the 347. They went on to say they guarntee the 347 to last as long as the 331 (theoretically speaking). They have the same projected life span of 100,000 miles. The 331 does have a better rod ratio however. Its preference basically. I personally would go with a 331 due to the rod ratio. Its shorter stroke and better rod ratio would be ideal for a boosted application.
