btw...auto's arent faster(or slower) than a manual, just more consistant.

You will actually make more power through a manual tranny too. Auto's are way more consistant while manuals are for better drivers

Torque multiplication amongst a few other things once you start to make more HP in a car make automatic transmissions better for a few reasons in drag racing.

To the OP I'm sure your combo will be fine for DD duties, you haven't listed anything to make me think otherwise.

High stall convectors in street cars are awful. When you hit a high the rpms go up. They are also hard on the tranny. The best thing for street/strip would be a manual trans.

We had a customer with a torino and a 3000 stall converter and a it was awful to ride in. Going up the road the convertor was in and out constantly. We put a stock one in it for him.

I run a 3800 stall with our C-4 and 331 rear gears and 28in tall tire at 55 mph is is still very lose but it works great I have had no heat issues that I can tell so far. the fluid still looks good but I run a very different fluid then most people so I know that helps also and a large cooler. but around town it is not bad at all and at the track it rocks.

I never had a problem with mine daily driving with a 3k. Definitely get a good trans cooler, I got one from a van in the junkyard which seemed to work fairly well. As for comparison with 5spd Taking off at a higher rpm & not letting it drop below seemed to help. I've done 7 transmission swaps on my car, none went bad just wanted something different each time. Currently I have a T5 back in, but honestly I would have to say built auto > manual, stock autos imo are junk & shouldn't be put anywhere close to the same league as built autos.

Also I'd say look into the 4r70w from a newer v6 mustang as an option if you don't mind swapping to a manual valve body they seem like a good choice for fairly cheap.

If you want a high stall, you will need to have one that works well with the cam you are running. A 3000rpm stall with a stock cam will make your car slower and decrease your performance and mpg. It's something that I had to learn the hard way. Make sure you pick a cam that is within 600rpm of the stall speed. For instance a TrickFlow Stg. 1 cam(2200-6000rpm) would work well with a 3000 stall. As for the tranny itself, a 4r70w tranny is the way to go. Its an incredibly strong tranny w/a 700tq output(70 stands for). Plus, it has a lower gear set. The AODE has a 2:40 first gear(I think the AOD has the same) The 4r70w has a 2.84 first gear. That extra .40 really makes a difference. Another thing to do if you upgrade your tranny is put in a transmission cooler. As they say, heat is the number one cause for transmission failure. I have a moderate stall approx. 2700 and it is somewhat loose, but really increased my car's performance. Prior to my stall and and cam change, my stang ran a 9.31@78 eighth., After the stall and cam I ran a 8.42@84 eighth. My 60ft time was lowered from a 2.3 to a 2.0. Plus the car launches much harder.

back when my mustang was still a DD, it had a 4000rpm NON LOCKUP converter. for those that dont know, that means the converter slips all the time, even in OD. it was just fine for a DD. i had a tranny cooler and never had any over heating problems. drove just fine. with the turbos in, i know have a 3000rpm non lockup converter and it drives just fine on the street. drives just like stock, just way more powerful

good info guy's, im still sorta up in the air about all this.

i thought a auto would be cheaper, but i just got a email from Lentech auto's and it seem's the price of the transmission has jumped.

they recommend one of theres street transmission's and a 9"stall, price of the tranny is $2600 and the stall is $700 add shipping, and we are prob around $3500!

i can do the hole TKO600 swap for about that same exact price.

if it matters, i have a stock cam, 4.10 rear end, car is 3550lbs with me in it, prob putting out 250rwhp and 300rwtrq, and when im "racing" it, ill be spraying a 100-150shot of nitrous.

at this moment im still leaning more tword the TKO600.
an auto would be EASIER, but i know myself, and i think i would get bored quick.

if i had a tko, it would be more challenging, and in that respect, make it funner for me!

keep the opinion's coming guy's, this is good information.
