Default Save an Idiot.

I was replacing various things on my car in effort to get the power steering running again, and my car had been out of commission for about 3 days, because I had been waiting for parts to come in, and like an idiot I wasn't paying attention and was in a hurry and put the pulley on backwards.

Yes I know, I know.

I need ideas to get this off, I was thinking about maybe drilling 2 holes in the body of the pulley any using a steering wheel puller. I would rather avoid this though because I don't want to risk breaking the pulley and I'd have to take out the entire mount.

You will need to get the tool that is just for that type of pulley to be able to "press" it back off..The one i have is a snap on but you should be able to rent it from one of your local autoparts store.

If you put it on backwards you will not be able to take it off with the normal tools. The only thing I can I can say is to destroy the pulley and get a new one.

Just be careful and patient. You might end up cracking the pulley.

Here are a few ideas

Big three jaw puller

Weld a couple of nuts on the back of the pulley, use a steering wheel or balancer puller,Then you can grind the welds back off.

Use a large bearing plate and large press

I just did the most half assed fix I've ever done on any of my cars, instead of the number of decent ideas you all had, I just loosened the bolts and I put some scrap metal between the pump and bracket and then torqued the bolts down again. I only needed less than half an inch.

What was ford thinking with these solid brackets? If in the future I have the pump out again, do you think it'd be alright to cut out the section between the side bolts so that I can pull the pulley outside of the engine bay?
