Default Steering Shaft help

How hard is it to replace a steering shaft?

I'm doing it out of my home, and at the same time, I'm replacing the steering rack, tie rods, bushings, and I'm going to need an alignment on a car already in NEED of one.

dangerous dealing with the shaft?

This and rebuilding an axle are the only things I haven't done on a car....

the shaft is quite simple to replace.

just make sure the steering wheel does not lock while you're unbolting it

depending on your headers you may also run into clearence issues.

i have the flaming river low-profile design shaft and the only real problem was aligning the shaft so that it wouldnt bind on itself. once i resolved that, i found 2 bolts hitting my header (unequal bbk shorties). a quick grind and everything was smooth.

be very careful with the hard lines off the rack. they bend/break very easily.

goodluck, need help shoot me a pm.

I plan on getting a MM steering shaft... and the rack is just a kit from 50resto bc i'm sticking with power steering. I'm avoiding flaming river with this car.

yeah, its easy. just be sure you tie the steering wheel in place. If it free-wheels you could damage your clockspring if you have an airbag.
