Default supercharged 347 or n/a 408?

Well after some research and asking around I am a little scared of building a supercharged 347. I have been told the block splits or becomes very weak at about500-550 hp. Now owhen I first wanted to build the 347 boosted my goal was only about 450-500 hp. After looking around I have noticed these are pretty low numbers for a supercharged 347. Though I would love more power I dont want to risk block failure. I was going to buy a short block from woodsy and maybe get the early castings block. Though I would have to spend alittle more money to run the block I have heard they are stronger. Plus I dont have the extra money for a aftermarkeyt block. I will not go n/a on a 347 either because they are just not in the power range I am looking for unless you spend alot.

My other thought was to just get a 408/418 stroker n/a capable of a nice shot on nitrous. I am on budget of about 6-7000 so I dont have 10k for a motor. I have 10k for motor, tranny, and rearend. I have done research on 408-418 strokers and they are alittle on the expensive side but if it comes out about even with a build supercharged 347 then I figure I will go with the 408-418 simply b/c I have heard they are a little stronger.

I guess my main question is what is suggested to go with money wise and performance wise. I figured a supercharged 347 would be cheap and easy hp, but after hearing about the block spliting I am scared. Like mentioned my goal is 450-500 rwp on a raily driven street/strip car. If I go supercharged I was wanting to run about 12-15 pounds of boost. I figure 500 hp would be pretty easy to get with the 347. 408/418 I have seen a variety of numbers both impressive and not impressive.

...I really wouldn't want to SC a 347 (or just low amounts of boost), so I'd go with a NA 408!

Why not do a SC 377? ...or 393?

N/A 408 would probably be in your budget. Have you looked into a crate engine?

I am guessing a 377 or 393 would be on a 351 block right? To be honest that never crossed my mind lol. Do you think that would be cheaper and stronger?

Crate engines tend to be pretty expensive. Tend to be abouve 8k for a engine in my power goals. I was just going to do all the work myself. Cheaper and a nice learning experiance. But then again I have only looked at dssracing and ford strokers. Ford strokers is the cheapest but still more then I would like to spend. I wouldnt mind going supercharged though. It would bet me into my pwer range very easy I believe

power wise I was at first wanting 450-500 rwhp, but since I forgot about a 377 or 393 I figure 500 rwhp on a supercharged 377 or 393 would be pretty low. So a guess a minimum or 500 rwhp would be a good start.
