Default complete rebuild

I'm looking to build a 8-9 second street legal 1989 GT 5.0 I'm going to be rebuilding my car from the ground up. Car is registered in a state with no inspection. anyway, I'm sticking with the 302 block and will be supercharging. other than that what should i put on/into the car. what would be a good transmission to handle the power, what should i use on the block. Money is not an issue, and i have an auto shop.

Well for starters you arn't going 8 seconds on a stock block so and aftermarket block is in order. Because most of my replies go into detail I don't have enough room on the internet to explain to you why you shouldn't attemp to build an 8 second car for the street. Suffice to say if done properly you first need to have 50-100 thousand dollars to get it done right. My advice is try to stick to something in the 10-11 second range. I think your expectations are set a wee bit on the high side.

I'm with Portmaster. You would need at least $20 grand, just for the motor, not to mention all the suspension components to plant the power to the ground. At minimum, I would think you would need a back half 4 link, along with very stout C4 or Powerglide.

So anyway I look at it, I can't keep the stock block.

My father in law is an ASE cert. Master Tech and has his own shop, so I have lifts and tools all available to me for free.

Realisticly how much money do you want spend? I hate to take the time to give advice if youre not serious. I don't think you realize what it takes to go fast. There is a big dollar differance between high 10's and low 10's
