Is this gap on my engine normal? (pic)
Check out this picture please on my '93. The engine is out of the car getting cleaned up and some minor mods. This picture is take from the rear and the question is my where the intake meets the block. There was a lot of oil there and it looks like there is a gap?
Is this normal?
If not - will a new gasket set resolve this issue?
Thanks!!

The front and rear intake gaskets are a subject of hot debate. Some say to use the gaskets and others say to skip the gaskets and lay a heavy bead of RTV down instead because the gaskets have a tendency to shift when tightening the intake bolts. I think a combination of both is the best. I take some high tack gasket adhesive and smear it on the underside of the gasket and then put it on the block. After it sets up, the cork gasket can't move. I then put a thin layer of RTV on top of the gasket and install the intake.

guy that ported my head's thats been building engine's longer then ive been alive said the same.
been working fine for me. lay a thick bead, but nothing crazy, dime sized bead and let it set till it doesent come off on your finger's when you touch it, then get the intake on and bolt it down.

cork should be illegal!!! they do make nice silicone ones that work.cork just sucks! brandnew cork valve cover gaskets will leak. rtv and all that stuff is great but if you dont let it set up first it will just all get pushed out when you tighten the intake down. i use the felpro intake set and lightly coat the front and back silicone pieces. no problems yet
