5th set of header gaskets goin on tonight
so i got a set of 1 3/8 mac headers, and i am currently on my 5th set of gaskets, what the am i doing wrong?
i got rid of the copper ones and got the fel-pros, and i got one pair to seal, but the screws backed out after awhile and the gasket blew out....wups[]. i tighten them from the middle out, dont know if there is any way in particular that needs to be done. anyways, i was just wondering if any of you have even had something like this happen to ya, and if anyone knows some big secret i dont about doing this lol.

After you get them on there, use Loctite (threadloc) to keep the bolts from backin out. Also, after you've driven around for a day or two, double check the torque on all the bolts. After heating up and expanding, then cooling down, they tend to loosen if you don't double check them and have them threadlocked. Are you using a torque wrench on them or just snugging them and going by feel?

I would definitally use the proper tourqe spec and re-tourqe them after a day of driving, and keep an eye on them after that. You dont want to over tighten them because the bolts could break off in the head when the engine gets hot. The tourqe spec will be quite low, but don't go any higher than that.

Does anyone know what the tourqe specs are? I just snugged them down because the way they are set up i cant fit a socket on all of them, so i have to use a 45* wrench to get on most of th bolts. i did buy one of those wrench heads that you can slick onto the socket wrench, i dont even know if it will work but maybe that will let me tourqe em down? http://www.macperformance.com/store/..._ID=10...thats the link to them...anyways, thanks for youe help...im gettin tired of changin those gaskets lol
